Como é possível utilizar qualquer formato de texto para conversar com o servidor web utilizando XMLHttpRequest, o JSON entra na lista, eu tinha visto apenas AJAX com XML ou txt.
Foi no Tableless que eu descobrir esse tal de JSON, vi que tem implementação para funcionar com um monte de linguagem.
